Kindergarten (Mrs. Rivera and Miss Burdeshaw)
This Week:
- Our kindergarteners have completed their last academic week here at Bradford! By next Friday, they will officially be considered first grade students. In math, we learned how to represent numbers to 500, how to write addition and subtraction fact families, how to estimate and weigh objects using nonstandard units, and we also reviewed several concepts from the fourth quarter. In phonics, we introduced a new and final spelling word list, and worked on reading and comprehending an “I Can Read” book. In history, we discussed the present day and learned some historical facts about the town of Mebane. In art and science, we finished up our section on the human body and completed our human body projects.
Memory Work:
- Review all verses for the Bible Bee!
1st Grade (Mrs. Morgan & Mrs. Smith)
This Week:
- We have been reviewing all the math concepts we learned this year: time, addition, subtraction, place value, coins, measuring, fractions, etc. We have played games to practice our final spelling words of the year. We have been working hard on the George Washington report and finishing up our history journals. In grammar we have been assessing and practicing sentence writing, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and addressing an envelope. We read our final (and funniest) Frog and Toad story this week and worked on a packet full of learning and fun. We had the opportunity to see TK practice their end of the year performance. The students got to read to the TK kids and be the “big kids” with their reading buddies. In art we colored the Butterfly life cycle. In science the kids learned about rainbows.
Memory Work:
- All memory verses. Bible Bee Wednesday the 29th.
Upcoming:
- May 27, Monday – Memorial Day – No School
- May 31st, Friday – Last day of school, field day, half day
2nd Grade (Mrs. Hedgecock & Mrs. Eng)
This Week:
- Second grade has enjoyed a busy week reviewing facts and concepts that we have learned over the past year. Our study of Ancient Egypt has ended as Egypt Falls to Rome. What an exciting story of Cleopatra. Our final project for Latin is to draw pictures trying to include all 100+ words that we learned this year. It is a delight to see the student’s creativity. Our last book to read this year is Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat. It is fun to follow the adventures of Billy and Bruce and their many pets, including two owls. The story takes place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada so we have spent a little time learning about our neighbor to the north. In math we reviewed the key concepts and all the facts we have learned and had our final math assessments on Friday. The students continue to work diligently and desire to have a good finish to second grade.
3rd Grade (Mrs. McDorman and Mrs. Meredith)
This Week
- We have finished up the curriculum course work for each discipline. Students reviewed the events in history leading up to the birth of Christ and the spread of Christianity to see how our God weaves together all things for His glory! We speculated, along with countless historians, as to why the Western Roman Empire finally came to an end after a thousand years. Ultimately, we know, as Job 12:23 declares, “He makes nations great, and destroys them; He enlarges nations, and guides them.” And Proverbs 14:34 reminds us that, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” It is only by His sovereign will that a nation rise and fall. We completed our Latin study with a review of the last 4 chapters and plan to celebrate next week with the ultimate game of trasketball! Students also finished up summarizing from multiple sources and turned in their final drafts. In math, we studied triangles, solved complex equations, and learned that numbers can be irrational. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time with your students and look forward to finishing this year celebrating all they have accomplished! Enjoy the long weekend honoring those who served our country well.

But, of course, governance must take place, and so, in an ironic twist, this expressive individualism actually leads to an oppressive authoritarianism by the state.
