Kindergarten (Miss Burdeshaw and Mrs. Rivera)

This Week:

Our kindergarten class had a fun-filled last week here at school! Our Bible Bee went well and the kids enjoyed sharing the verses they had learned. We finished off the week by having a Field Day, where the kids had the opportunity to play games outdoors with one another. Now that our young scholars are good readers, make sure to continue reading this summer! Be sure to pack a book in your suitcase wherever your travels take you. As this school year comes to an end, we are thankful for all of God’s rich blessings to us and we wish that everyone has a fantastic summer!

1st Grade (Mrs. Morgan & Mrs. Smith)

This Week:

We had a wonderful final week together and the Bible Bee was a success! We are so proud of their hard work and diligence. We pray they will tuck those words of wisdom in their hearts. In science we  completed a walking rainbow experiment and some students experimented with light bending by using a pencil and a cup of water.  God granted us a beautiful day to release our butterflies in the field and we had an opportunity to check on our sunflower garden. In art we created a special surprise for our fathers. In grammar we have written letters to a friend. We closed out our week with FIELD DAY!   As the end of the year is here  we are reflecting upon God’s mercies and goodness.  We hope you all have a fantastic supper and we will see you again in August.

2nd Grade (Mrs. Hedgecock & Mrs. Eng)

This Week:

We had a wonderful last week together! Second graders performed very well at the Verse Bee; we were so proud of their hard work in preparing for it. Thank you, parents, for all the work you did to help them with that. What a privilege it is to learn in a school where we can hide God’s Word in our hearts! Our last week together  ended with a fun time of fellowship and competition at the Field Day. As the year has come to a close, we give praise to God for His goodness and mercy to us each day, and we wish you all a wonderful summer vacation. Lord willing, we will see you in August!

3rd Grade (Mrs. McDorman and Mrs. Meredith)

This Week

We had a wonderful week together in 3rd grade! Students competed in the annual Bible bee, cleaned out their folders and desks, packed up the classroom, and finished off the week writing  wise words to the rising third graders. We soaked up every last minute. They enjoyed a jam packed field day and are ready to start  an adventurous summer! Thank you for an amazing year, parents! We will miss each one of your students, but look forward to seeing all they accomplish!

4th Grade (Mrs. Burtram and Mrs. Lawson)

This Week
  • We completed a wonderful Bible Bee and had a wonderful time studying and sharing the Lord’s Word aloud for parents, teachers, and friends.  Our class completed writing lessons, math lessons, and we finished our class book.  We ended the week enjoying the creation of a summer journal with a message page for all the classmates to sign.  A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Foushee for sharing a pizza treat with the students on Wednesday.   Thank you for a wonderful year and blessings for a beautiful summer.

5th Grade (Mrs. Owens)

This Week

Research papers are turned in, Bible Bee has been completed, and the Patriotic Program was a hit.  I am so proud of our students.  They have continued to work hard and persevere up to the very end.  This week we finished reading Treasure Island and we were able to see where the treasure and Long John Silver ended up.  Thank you so much for a wonderful year and I look forward to being at the upper campus next year so I can check in with your students.

LOGIC SCHOOL

Mrs. Bennington

6th-8th Band
  • Students enjoyed a review of all of the songs that they have learned this year in Band. We had a great discussion about their progress this year as well as plans for next year. Several students will be switching instruments over the summer to help provide more balanced instrumentation. Students that expressed an interest in switching received a letter to bring home with instructions of the next steps. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  It was an absolute pleasure to have your child in Band this year. Students grew so much in their musicianship and ability to work as a team. I am looking forward to another great year in Band next school year.

Mrs. Sarah Johnston

6th-8th Choir

The students finished this week’s rehearsals with preparations for Graduation. They have done well, and we look forward to sending the seniors off with the reminder of Christ who strengthens us! Thank you to everyone for a great semester, and keep up the singing!

Miss Stevenson

6th-8th Girls’ PE
  • As a farewell to PE for the year, the middle school girls went to Muffins.
6th Grammar and Writing
  • Sixth grade had the thrilling opportunity to learn more about the correct usage of colons and hyphens this week.
6th Bible
  • We ran out of time and didn’t quite have time to finish reading the whole New Testament this year, but we were able to read through the book of James this week.
6th Science
  • This week we did a review of genetics with the help of the Amoeba Sisters.
6th Logic
  • The kids finished the year strong by presenting on advertisements they found that used one or more logical fallacies.

Mrs. Frueh

6th Grade Math
  • We wrapped up our last few lessons by attempting some challenging questions from each of the remaining lessons, including multiplying and dividing in scientific notation. We also used logic to understand why division by zero is undefined.

Mrs. Palmer

6th Art
  • We wrapped up our year by working on dessert drawings in either colored pencil or oil pastel.  We also reviewed our artists of the quarter.  I have so enjoyed teaching your students this year!

Miss Windes

6th Grade Latin
  • 6th graders took their last Latin test of the year!

Mrs. Crotts

7th Grammar and Writing
  • Grammar and Writing class did not meet this week due to the observance of Memorial Day and the week’s conclusion with Field Day.
7th Grade Omnibus
  • After reviewing what the Socratic method of learning was, we summarized C.S. Lewis’ The Last Battle. Then we divided into 3 groups to decipher 5 questions about the book and compared it to the Odyssey and the biblical book of Revelation.  We also watched a movie about the biblical books of Genesis and Exodus and completed worksheets to determine how closely it followed the books.
7th Logic
  • We met for Logic class once this week and concluded  watching the movie about the biblical books of Genesis and Exodus.

Mrs. Frueh

7th Grade Science
  • Our last few student-teachers presented to the class on the astronomy topic they studied this quarter. From our student presenters, we learned about Saturn, the exploration of Mars, galaxies, and the Apollo moon missions.
7th Grade Pre-Algebra
  • We wrapped up the year with our final test. The students are now ready to move on to Algebra 1, their first high school math class. I highly recommend that students keep their algebra skills sharp over the summer so they’re ready to hit the ground running in the fall. Two great options for summer review are: (1) Either the Pre-algebra or Algebra 1 course on Khan Academy (a free online course provider) or (2) Kumon review workbooks targeted at skills that your student needs to review.

Mrs. Palmer

7th Art
  • We wrapped up our year by working on dessert drawings in either colored pencil or oil pastel.  We also reviewed our artists of the quarter.  I have so enjoyed teaching your students this year!

  • 7th graders took their last Latin test of the year and then enjoyed a Latin scavenger hunt!

Miss Windes

8th Grade Omnibus

  • Literature: We wrapped up our reading of Midsummer Night’s Dream by acting out the final scenes together. The students also each chose a short scene of the play to practice and perform with a fellow classmate or two.
  • Composition: No composition this week.
8th Grade Latin
  • 8th graders ended their Latin careers by finishing their fairy tale/myth translations, dressing up in togas, and having a small Roman snack of pita, dried fruit, walnuts, and honey.

Mrs. Frueh

8th Grade Science
  • We had fun this week wrapping up our compound chemistry unit by performing several different reactions. The students were able to identify the reactions as endothermic or exothermic, but also to write and balance their chemical equations.
8th Grade Algebra I
  • We completed the year by learning how to use Google Sheets to solve many of the algebraic equations we learned this year. Google Sheets (or Microsoft Excel) is a powerful tool that can be used to analyze data, graph both linear and nonlinear equations, and create charts or graphs. It was neat to see how skills we’ve learned to master by hand can be carried out by a computer in seconds (if the human behind the keyboard understands the math themselves!).

Mrs. Palmer

8th Art
  • We wrapped up our year by reviewing our artists of the quarter.  Students have a good amount of art to share with you!

RHETORIC SCHOOL

From COLLEGE COUNSELING Office:

Juniors: Over the summer, make sure there is a clear answer to each of these questions to prepare for next year!

  • Career/college interests; what general path are you pursuing?
  • What colleges are you currently thinking about applying to?
  • Have you visited the colleges you want to apply to or do you have a plan for when you will visit?
  • Test scores – on track with colleges you are interested in? A plan to raise test scores if not?
  • Do you have a system to keep track of everything?
  • Have you talked about finances and discussed expectations/a plan for paying for college?
  • Let me know if you have any questions about the process and if there is any way I can be of help to you!

A couple resources that I would recommend:

  • This podcast – 5 Things Juniors Should Do Now – has excellent tips and information on test prep, financial aid, and generally how juniors and their families can be preparing for senior year and college applications (also on Spotify and I’m sure other places; from Getting In: A College Coach Conversation)
  • This blog post has several helpful tips and goes a bit more in depth about summer preparations. I highly recommend starting on college essays, resume/activity list, asking for letters of recommendation, and getting organized with dates and deadlines over the summer!

Seniors: Congratulations on all you have achieved this year!!

Mrs. Palmer

9th Spanish
  • We reviewed vocabulary and grammar from this past year.  Your students have learned quite a bit of language this year and it has been fun to watch them grow in their language acquisition!

Dr. James

9th Geometry
  • This week the class only met one day.  We reviewed commonly missed problems from the last test.  Then, the class was divided into two groups, and they worked together on three group problems that were math related.  Have a good summer.

Mrs. Hicks

9th Biology
  • This week we wrapped class up on Tuesday with dissection of sharks and pigs. This gave students an opportunity to talk through things we learned in Biology, as well as a preview of Anatomy!

Dr. Smith

9th Theology
  • We had our final exam today, which covered from the rise of Modern Biblical Criticism in the 1630’s, to the twentieth century. These students are to be commended for tackling some very difficult and at times “heady” subjects this year. They worked hard all year and consistently had good results. There are a number of them who are quite gifted academically. But, of course, what we desire above all else is that they all use all their gifts in service for our Lord. I will be praying for them, and your whole family throughout the summer. May the Lord bless you with a rejuvenating one. Thank you for giving me the privilege to teach your son or daughter.

Mrs. Crotts

9th Literature

Dr. Byrd

10th Bible Survey
  • By God’s grace, we again finished the Bible for Bible Survey class. We covered the Old and New Testaments! It was a push here at the end, but we were able to cover I, II, III John and Revelation to finish.
  • We were encouraged by the sure promise given in the words of Revelation 17:14 – “They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
  • Of note: it takes about 70 hours to read through the whole Bible, which translates to about 11-13 minutes every day. Open God’s Word every day and have fellowship with Him through Christ by the help of the Holy Spirit.
  • Students did an amazing job on their Book Analysis Projects!

They have all been a delight to teach and I look forward to having them in Apologetics and Philosophy next year. May you all have a great summer.
