Nurturing Strong Foundations

A solid academic foundation begins with strong phonetic reading skills and a developing number sense.  At Bradford Academy, the budding young scholars grow in these things and so much more!  Bible memory, history songs, science, art, and music all come together to nurture a love for learning and joy for living in God’s wondrous world!

A SAMPLE DAY

  • 8:00-8:20 Forum.
    • We recite the Pledge to the American flag, Declaration of Independence, and the Preamble to the Constitution.  It’s not too young to commit these noble ideas to memory! 
    • The students also enjoy learning different traditional hymns, a weekly memory verse, and learn doctrine by way of catechism.  The students love reviewing history or science songs and so much more.
  • 8:20-9:00 Math Meeting
    • Review calendar- month and date
    • Sing songs like Days of the Week or How Many Days in School?
    • Review the Hundred Chart- Count by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, and 100’s
    • Review math facts
    • Review weather and seasons
    • Review coins
    • Number patterns
  • 9:00-9:45 Math Instruction
    • Introduction of new math concept followed by guided practice.  Students use plenty of manipulative to help grasp concepts.  However they are also drilled in basics facts to solidify computational skills and speed.
    • Side A of the practice sheet and the fact sheets are completed at school.  Side B is typically assigned for homework.
  • 9:45-9:50 Snack
  • 9:50-10:00 Bathroom break
  • 10:00-10:15 Recess
  • 10:15-11:15 Phonics
    • Sing phonics songs
    • Letter recognition/letter sounds
    • Special exhibit words
    • Handwriting – proper strokes for letters, writing words, and handwriting practice
    • Readers and phonics activities and worksheets
  • 11:15-12:00 Specials: In addition to  the many ways all knowledge is integrated in both math and reading classes, our young scholars enjoy special designated times to dive into various exciting topics in their daily “special” classes!
    • Monday – History
    • Tuesday – Music
    • Wednesday – Art
    • Thursday – P.E.
    • Friday – Science
  • 12:00 Dismissal for half day students, full day students eat lunch from 12:00-12:30
  • 12:30-1:30 Quiet Time: Busy young minds need a break to recharge and refresh!
  • 1:30-1:45 Clean up and Chores
  • 1:45-2:05 Outdoor Recess & Bathroom Break
  • 2:05-2:45 Academic Review: Complete math homework, review songs, review verses, review memory work,  and pack up to go home!
  • 2:45 Dismissal

A lot of learning is packed into each day!  Don’t be surprised by your child talking your ear off on the way home or sometimes just falling asleep after a day of great activities!

Four-year-old and young five-year-old students showing academic curiosity.

They may not be ready for an academic kindergarten experience but would do well with more focused academics than a typical pre-school.  An excellent program to ease the transition to regular school.

TK 5Day

4 years old by August 31st

Four-year-old and young five-year-old students showing academic curiosity and are comfortable being out of the home for five mornings.

They may not be ready for an academic kindergarten experience but would do well with more focused academics than a typical pre-school.

K

1/2 Day

5 years old by August 31st

Students ready for an academic kindergarten experience but would do well with a shorter day.

These students are beginning to develop the needed skills (fine and gross motor, social, emotional, and letter/number awareness) to be successful in kindergarten.

K

Full Day

5 years old by August 31st

Students ready for an academic kindergarten experience.
