Classical Christian Education on the Rise

Classical Christian education has experienced massive growth in the United States and has become a considerable market force. Sarah Hernholm reported on the phenomenon for Forbes in an article titled “The $10 Billion Rise of Classical Education.”

Hernholm says that the education market is quickly diversifying. Classical Christian education is one of many alternative education models changing the market. “Parents increasingly seek educational options aligned with their children’s particular values, learning styles, and future aspirations,” Hernholm writes. The Classical Christian model develops virtuous character provides students with critical thinking, adaptability, and leadership skills. Skills parents hope to nurture in their children.

Young parents are becoming increasingly flexible when it comes to examining their preconceived notions about what school looks like. Meanwhile, entrepreneurs, investors, and educators are looking for change. Our communities are asking, “What are the advantages, disadvantages, and risks of different educational models? How can we contribute to student development? What will support their future wellbeing?”  More and more people are coming to appreciate the answers they hear from classical schools.

Between 2019 and 2023, 264 classical Christian schools were launched nationwide. Classical Christian education outpaced most other education sectors, growing 4.8% annually. Within ten years, enrollment in this sector is expected to have doubled to 1.4 million students. New school launches are outpacing school closures, meaning that classical Christian schools attract new students, but retain them as well. The Association of Classical Christian Schools experienced a 50% membership increase over five years.
